Privacy Policy
Effective August 14, 2026
This policy explains what Trail Planner (“we”, “us”) collects when you use trailplanner.ai (the “Service”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the Service for you.
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider).
- Planning data — the trips, dates, gear lists, trail-fit preferences, and notes you create in the Service.
- Messages you send us — for example when you email support.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Service we and our infrastructure providers receive basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, used to keep the Service secure and working. We do not sell this data, and we keep analytics to the minimum needed to operate the beta.
Weather and location
When you view weather for a trip we request a forecast for that trip’s location from a third-party weather provider. Weather results are shown to you in the moment and are not stored on your profile.
How we use your information
- to provide the Service — save your trips, tailor trail suggestions, and format distances and weights to your unit preference;
- to secure your account and prevent abuse;
- to respond when you contact us;
- to understand, at an aggregate level, how the beta is used so we can improve it.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that run the Service on our behalf — for example hosting, authentication, database, and weather providers — and only so they can perform those functions. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of people or the Service. Trail Planner’s MVP is single-player: your planning data is private to your account and is not shown to other hikers.
Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from Settings, we delete your profile and planning data. Backups and logs that may briefly retain data are cycled out on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your information in the Service, and delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your profile and planning data. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights to access, correct, or export your data — email support@trailplanner.ai and we will help.
Security
We use reputable infrastructure providers and access controls to protect your information. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit who can reach it.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
